SEASON STANDINGS BEFORE BALTIC TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL ROUND IN RIGA

Baltic Touring Car Championship season 2016 is nearing it’s end and on October 9 we are expecting the final round to take place in Riga. Round where all champions will be decided.

After four stages in Latvian Championship Kumho Challenge National class first place is taken by 3-times Vice-champion Jānis Vanks who is now heading towards his first champion title. For the victory definitely will compete last season’s Champion and currently second Garijs Rožkalns. Third position is taken by Aldis Fokrots, but if Antons Dolgopolovs will be successful enough, he can break into best Top-3 of the season.

In Kumho Challenge Super 1600 class stable leader in his debut season in BaTCC is 17 year old Mārtiņš Sesks. Currently second position is taken by Mārtiņš Sesks team mate Beate Klipa and only eight points behind is Igors Zubkovs. Last but not least – only 3 points behind Zubkovs is Russian driver Dmitry Savateev.

In class BTC1 first place after three championship rounds is occupied by Estonian Peeter Peek. Still with a chance to beat him in the last event in Riga is Lithuanian Edvinas Mardosas. Only 4 points behind Mardosas is another Lithuanian Julius Skirmantas, but after his hard crash in the previous event there is a little chance to see him racing in Riga this season. This lets the question arise whether the current fourth place owner Gedas Drukteinis will reach the Top-3 as he is 35 points behind Skirmantas.

Serious application for the Champion title has expressed the BTC2 class leader Alvydas Malakauskas leading with 39.5 points over Nerijus Malasevicius. Malasevicius position could be compromised if Nikolay Gryazin will decide to show up in the Championship in his super powerful BMW M3. Also the newcomer to the BTC2 class Ramūnas Čapkauskas can still catch Malasevicius in the last event.

The toughest competition for champion title is in BGT class where the first place is taken by Saulius Berzis, only 12 points behind is the Baltic Touring Car fastest lady and last season’s Vice-champion Ernesta Globyte and 15 points behind her is Marius Dijokas.

Baltic Open class before final round has the most intense situation – all Top-3 racers have participated one event each and the question is – who will return to Riga to take the Champion title of the season. Finn Raimo Kesseli who participated in the first round is the current leader with 50 points, second place is occupied by Finnish driver Mika Virtanen and close behind him is Estonian driver Raivo Haal.
